Hematologic Malignancies Update:Latest Developments in Diagnosis and Management

Course Description

This continuing education program is designed for all oncology RN’s to enhance an understanding of Common Hematologic Malignancies, with a focus on the latest treatment modalities and decision making process required to determine the most appropriate intervention for a specific patient. The faculty will include internationally known Bay Area physicians and Clinical Nurse Specialist with expertise in the field of hematologic malignancies. Participants will leave the program armed with the knowledge of the latest developments, critical skills required and the sensitivity in caring for this patient population.

Course Objectives

  1. Identify the most common presenting signs and symptoms for multiple myeloma, lymphoma, and leukemia.
  2. Discuss risk factors associated with each diagnosis.
  3. List the appropriate diagnostic tests for each of the malignancies discussed.
  4. Discuss factors that determine treatment for each diagnosis presented.
  5. Name current clinical trials
  6. Discuss assessment criteria for treatment related myelosuppression.
  7. Identify interventions for anemia, neutropenia and thrombocytopenia.
