COURSE DESCRIPTION
This continuing education program is designed for all oncology nurses to enhance an understanding of Common Hematological Malignancies. The program will focus on multiple myeloma, lymphomas and leukemia’s. The presentation will include pathophysiology, diagnosis, latest treatment options, nursing implications and the decision making process required to determine the most appropriate treatment for a specific patient. The faculty will include well known Bay Area physicians and nurses who are experts currently practicing in the field of hematological malignancies. Participants will leave the program armed with knowledge of new treatments, critical clinical skills required, and an increased sensitivity to this patient population.
COURSE OBJECTIVES
| At the conclusion of the course, the patient will be able to: |

Name the most common presenting symptoms for multiple myeloma, lymphoma and leukemia. |
| 2. |
Identify tools necessary for the diagnosis of multiple myeloma, lymphoma and the leukemias. |
| 3. |
Differentiate between Hodgkins Disease and Non-Hodgkins Lymphoma. |
| 4. |
Discuss current treatment, including standard care and clinical trials for the
most common hematologic malignancies presented. |
| 5. |
Discuss factors that influence treatment for each diagnosis presented. |
| 6. |
Describe complications associated with each diagnosis. |
| 7. |
Discuss nursing implications for the assessment of thrombocytopenia, neutropenia and anemia. |
